Hello! My name is Dr Alexia Mellor. I’m a Holistic Canine Nutrition + Wellness Consultant & Spiritual Wellness Coach for Soul-Led Dog Mamas. I'm also the host of the Mystic Dog Mama podcast!

My own journey into holistic canine nutrition started when my dog, Lucky, developed extreme gastrointestinal and kidney issues.
My vet and I became great friends because I was at the clinic so often! If it wasn't because of Lucky's vomiting, diarrhoea, or extreme pain from blocked anal glands that needed to be expressed every week, we were there for regular blood tests to monitor Lucky's kidney function.
After Lucky refused to eat ANY kind of kibble, but would happily eat fresh food toppers, I knew that I finally had to get over my fear of making him fresh food, because I didn't have another option. My fear of making a mistake was outweighed by the fact that I needed to make a change.
Honestly, I was terrified, overwhelmed, and didn't know where to turn.

After going down more Internet rabbit holes than I can count, I pursued canine nutrition professionally to be able to support other dog guardians like you to navigate their dogs' health journeys with confidence and ease.
Today, I specialise in helping to prevent, halt, and potentially reverse, chronic disease in our dogs using fresh food and my N.E.W. Approach.

The N.E.W. Approach is a holistic approach that looks at the root of your dog's current state of health.
Instead of trying to get rid of symptoms, with the N.E.W. Approach I look towards identifying the underlying cause of any issues or imbalances, and then supporting your dog's body with the ideal context for healing to take place. If you are looking for a path to healing that takes a whole body, mind, soul approach, then this is for you!
In my experience working with clients, and in my own experience with Lucky, I have seen firsthand how taking a holistic approach that brings the soul to the science of nutrition can quickly help to pinpoint underlying issues - some that were missed by other professionals - so that we can get your dog on the road to health quickly.
For therapeutic packages, this also includes coaching and support, because health challenges need more than just a specialised recipe. Chronic health challenges require an approach that regularly checks back in with your dog's energetic balance and makes adjustments in order to bring the body, mind, and spirit into harmony. And as a dog mama facing these challenges with your pup, supporting YOU is one of the most crucial aspects of your dog's health journey.

What it is ISN'T and who it isn't a fit for...
This isn't a "quick fix".
If you're looking for overnight success, you are probably going to be pretty disappointed. The body needs time to heal, and along the healing journey, things can often look worse before they look better.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Each dog is an individual and will respond to things differently. That means there will inevitably be a lot of trial and error as we learn from your dog and their body about what they need.
We are so used to "popping a pill" to get rid of a condition, but many times, the issue just reappears. This is why the N.E.W. Approach looks to identify the root cause of your dog's issues and work on healing from there. If you're just interested in which foods or which supplements will get rid of something, this isn't for you.
If you just want to buy a recipe, this definitely isn't for you, but I can certainly point you in the direction of colleagues who will formulate a recipe for you. Although I create recipes for clients, this is after we take a deeper look at your dog's condition, and the recipe is only one part of a customised holistic plan to address your dog's challenges.
Canine nutrition consultations do not replace veterinary care, and I will be referring you to your veterinarian for any necessary testing, and to discuss our plan with them.

I am a former artist and academic-turned dog mama, holistic canine nutrition and wellness consultant, Reiki Master, and animal communicator who now takes a wholistic approach to nourishing our dogs - and ourselves - mind, body, and soul.
